This Sunday will be the second of two Annual Congregational Meetings that we hold at North Point Church (right after the worship service).  What may seem like an administrative task is actually an essential part of our Reformed Theology's practice.  In response to the abuses of the Roman Catholic Church in the early 16th century, John Calvin's reformation movement in Geneva Switzerland asserted that a more biblically faithful model of church leadership should include a return to the biblical practice of having 'elders' and 'deacons' chosen by the gathered church.  These Elders and Deacons are elected for a specific term (3 years with the caveat that they can be asked to serve two back to back terms).  The annual election of these two church offices became a mandate to elect members of a church body to a specific office so that decisions could  be made by the Church Elders by majority vote (versus one leader, such as the Pope or in a congregational setting, a Priest) and the caretaking ministries of the church being carried out by Deacons.  You might note that this sounds very much like our nation's form of government which is no accident (and a bit longer story).  The important thing is to join us this Sunday following worship and participate in the Reformed practice that makes for a healthy, accountable, and shared ministry.
