South Africa Ministry Partnerships

There are two programs that North Point is blessed to be able to support – an after-school drop-in center and mealie meal distribution.  Both programs serve the poorest of the poor in three communities – Klipkop, Maranatha, and Boiketlong.  Both Klipkop and Boiketlong are “informal settlements” – housing is a metal shack with no running water or electricity.

The drop-in center’s focus is on orphans and vulnerable children, providing after-school meals twice a week to about 300 children.  For most this is the only meal of the day.  In addition to meals, the Center provides tutoring help, recreational activities, and sometimes counseling.  Outreach workers regularly visit these households, many headed by children, to assist with the myriad of difficulties they face.
The mealie meal is distributed monthly in a 10 kg (22 lb) bag to 120 families (approx. 600 people).

These basic programs have made a huge positive difference in the lives of the families served.  Our partners in South Africa find themselves inundated with expressions of appreciation from single parents, grannies, and other extended family members who often manage these households in the most difficult environments.
Beginning in 2011, by partnering with Side by Side:South Africa, North Point has had the opportunity to become involved in service in South Africa.  With Side by Side’s leadership, groups and individuals from North Point have traveled to South Africa, and some of our partners there have been able to visit us here, making this a unique, relationship-based ministry.
The members of the South Africa Ministry Partnership Team invite you to join us to discuss and pray about how we might build our relationship with our brothers and sisters in South Africa. Coming does not commit you to joining the team, but your input and perspective would be truly appreciated. Please contact Penny Stokke at pennystokke@gmail.com with any questions.

You can donate to South Africa Ministry Partnerships on-line by clicking here, by dropping off a check in the tithe box in the foyer, during Sunday service offering, or mailing a check to our office.  When making a gift, please make sure to indicate “South Africa” in the memo line.
